Seth Fearey
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
In addition to his responsibilities as COO, Seth is the director of the Smart Valley initiative. He is currently the project manager for the Wireless Silicon Valley and Climate Protection projects. Seth is also working with commity leaders to improve cell phone coverage in the region and he is assisting with enhancements to the SiliconValleyOnline website.
Seth serves on the board of CalRHIO, a non-profit organization that is leading the regional health information exchange movement in California and a partner of the Smart Health project.
Background
Seth Fearey joined Joint Venture in 2004 with 20 years of management experience at Hewlett-Packard and seven years as an economic development consultant. At HP, Seth worked in finance, product marketing, marketing communications, and strategic planning. While at HP Laboratories he managed a university relations program and an information systems department. In 1989 Seth became involved with public policy issues, representing HP on the technology policy committee of the Washington DC-based Computer Systems Policy Project, now the Technology CEO Council. The CSPP's work on the National Information Infrastructure led directly to the formation of Smart Valley, one of the Joint Venture initiatives launched in 1993. Seth served on the board of Smart Valley from 1993 to 1998, leading initiatives in the local government sector.
After leaving HP, Seth worked with Collaborative Economics, then formed Connected Communities to help other communities learn from the Smart Valley example. Clients included 11 counties in California; Chicago; St. Louis; Washington DC; Mesa, Arizona; Ashland, Oregon; Norway, Sweden, and Japan.
Seth serves on the board of a community access television provider, the Midpeninsula Community Media Center in Palo Alto. He provides pro bono strategic planning consulting to Bay Area non-profits through the Stanford Business School Alumni Consulting Team program.
Seth has lived in Silicon Valley for over 30 years. He has a BA from Occidental College and an MBA from Stanford University.
