California Competes
What are we doing?
“California Competes” is a collaborative effort to create public policies that bolster our state’s position as the global leader in innovation. It also supports public and private investment in R&D, high-tech manufacturing, and the institutions that support our economy. Information regarding our 2006-2007 activities can be found here.
Why are we doing it?
Our state’s fiscal health is dependent on high-wage employment, so we must ensure that key industries such as information technology, semiconductors, life sciences, and clean energy stay and grow in California. We must also support the next generation of innovators coming though our public education system.
Who’s involved?
“California Competes” is a broadly based coalition coordinated by Joint Venture which includes key trade associations and businesses, together with the higher education community.
What are the latest developments?
The coalition’s 2008 agenda, which emphasized modest policies that recognized our fiscal hardship, was transmitted to Governor Schwarzeneggerr and Legislative leaders in July 2008. Download a copy of the letter here.
What are the next steps?
The group will continue to advocate for programs and activities that support our state’s long-term economic wellbeing, including education and R&D, as outlined in our Action Agenda.
